About Nurtalo

Calm, careful software for early years

Nurtalo is being built as an England-first nursery operating system: one record for the whole setting, designed around safety, accessibility and honesty rather than dashboards and novelty.

What we believe

The principles the product is judged against

These are the rules we hold ourselves to when deciding what to build and how a screen should behave.

Calm before clever

A nursery is already busy. Software should reduce noise, not add another surface demanding attention.

Priority before activity

The home screen leads with what needs attention today, not with a stream of everything that happened.

The child is a person, not a metric

No rankings, no streaks, no performance badges. Records describe children; they do not score them.

Evidence over reassurance

Where something matters, Nurtalo shows the underlying record rather than a comforting summary number.

Safety salient, not sensational

Safety information is prominent and unambiguous without turning every screen into an alarm.

Recovery over blame

Mistakes happen in a busy room. Flows are designed to be correctable, with the history preserved.

Where we are

Pre-launch, and open about it

Nurtalo is in active development ahead of launch. Substantial parts of the platform are built and working; others are still being finished. We would rather tell you exactly which is which than imply a finished product and disappoint a setting that has trusted us with its records.

We are building England-first: the vocabulary, the ratios, the funding realities and the inspection expectations of English early years provision, rather than a generic international product with England bolted on.

Accessibility is part of the build rather than a retrofit. WCAG 2.2 AA is the working minimum, keyboard operation is expected to work everywhere, and every product action is sized for a real finger on a real tablet in a busy room.

Want to shape what gets built next?

We are talking to nurseries and groups now. If your setting has a problem you have never found decent software for, we want to hear about it.
